Last week I went golfing. Not the "hitting little balls into holes with a long stick" kind of golf, but the Volkswagen type of Golf. I am in the highly fortunate position of being invited to drive a wide range of brand new vehicles and, even better, share my views on said vehicles and so, for the first time in several years I found myself behind the wheel of a Volkswagen.
This particular Golf was a station wagon or, in VW parlance, a Variant. And it was a diesel. Now, modern diesels are a far cry from the belching, fuming, fug-creating elderly used imports which have proliferated in recent years. Today's diesel is quiet (relative to earlier engines), clean and quick. They are a pleasure to drive. And this one was no exception.
